Extravagant and sexy: top 5 fitness trends of 2020
It’s a new year, and like many of us, you’ve probably resolved to get more exercise. But with ever-increasing offers for new and yet-undiscovered sports courses, it’s not always easy to decide where to start. That’s why we’ve taken a look at our community’s check-in habits to bring you 5 cool fitness trends for the coming year.
Fight yourself fit!
Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee did it, and so can you! By combining self-defense, coordination, and muscle training, boxing and free fighting are becoming more and more popular among both men and women. Because martial arts train the whole body, these sports offer participants a balanced and comprehensive workout. In addition to strengthening your cardiovascular system and burning lots of calories, there is another powerful benefit: you have the opportunity to really exert your strength, reducing anger, stress and frustration. So start throwing some punches!

The fitness industry reveals its sexy side
Scroll through the Urban Sports Club app and you’ll find some pretty steamy-sounding workouts, including chair dance, burlesque, striptease and floor. Why stop at pole dancing when you can train your whole body with our other popular dance and acrobatics classes, all while boosting your body awareness and self-confidence. And if you think these classes are only for ladies, think again. Many studios welcome male clubbers with open arms; some even offer male-specific classes where gentlemen can train together at the pole.

Work up a sweat, ice yourself down
From hot yoga to therapeutic tubes of ice – extreme temperatures are becoming an increasingly important part of relaxing or unwinding after a workout. And the possibilities are endless: whether it’s yoga at 30 to 40°C room temperature or lying up to your shoulders in a -150°C ice bucket after training, both methods have great advantages for your health. In extreme heat, muscles, tendons and fasciae can stretch more easily, circulation is stimulated and tension or blockages are released. An “icebox” is at the other end of the spectrum: cold has a positive effect on the muscles, especially after a workout, allowing your body to regenerate more quickly, which has a positive impact on your performance and endurance in the long-term. Are you ready to face some extreme temperatures this year?

Get toned at the ballet barre
Through numerous small, repetitive movements, barre is more holistic fitness training than classical stage dance, making it suitable for everyone. Barre combines a fitness workout with classic ballet, which is why it’s so effective. The movements work both your deep-seated and large muscle groups while demanding your full concentration. Even if your legs, buttocks and arms are burning just thinking about it, trust us, it’s worth it.

Short, intense workouts
Maximal effectiveness with a minimal time commitment: that’s what cardio, bootcamp and HIIT courses promise. The most intense workouts burn tons of calories while training your strength and stamina. Above all, group courses increase your sense of community, meaning that giving up is simply not an option. Trainings last 30-60 minutes at most, making them easy to integrate into your busy schedule or to motivate a colleague to join in.
